• Reducing Stress at Google!

I had the pleasure of speaking to the EMEA Marketing Team at Google HQ last month as part of their Neurodiversity and Mental Health talk series. Given that they were entering their busiest quarter I decided to talk about “Reducing Stress with Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Mindfulness”.

Drawing on elements of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), mindfulness and yoga, the talk focused on how to recognise and manage unhelpful, hypothetical worry and physical symptoms of stress and anxiety. We finished off with a mindful breathing practise to bring it all to life.

The team showed great engagement with the topic – despite the busy period, there was a significant turn out both in person in the HQ in London and across the globe in the European, Middle East and African teams.

Work is important for us in so many ways, it provides feelings of satisfaction and fulfilment that contribute to our sense of feeling valued. However at times work can be a great source of stress that has the potential to negatively impact all aspects of our life. Whilst there’s no denying that work pressures appear to be increasing for many, I’m heartened to see many workplaces now acknowledging their role in providing learning and resources to support employee mental wellbeing.

If you feel like you’re experiencing work-related burnout, the Mayo Clinic provides some tips on how to spot it and take action. They can be accessed here.

Finally, with huge thanks to Sarah Clark, Editor at Think with Google for making it possible for me to speak at Google.
