Research

I place a great deal of importance on the link between scientific research and clinical practise and delivering evidence-based approaches. I’ve led a research project to assess the effects of the Minded Institute Yoga Therapy 8 week course on depression and anxiety. I worked with Sat Bir S. Khalsa, Harvard Medical School, Leigh Gibson, Roehampton University and Heather Mason, founder of The Minded Institute on this study. The results indicate that the 8 week course can bring about meaningful improvements in mental health, well-being, resilience and mindfulness. The research paper is due to be published in 2019.

In December 2011 I worked with a team including Dr Luciano Bernardi, professor of internal medicine at the University of Pavia, Italy, to assess the effects of different breathing techniques and rates on baro-reflex sensitivity - a reflex mechanism that enables the body to maintain blood pressure at an appropriate rate. The research paper is available here. Dr Bernardi has published a large amount of research much of which explores breathing techniques and how modulating the breath can affect physiological measures.

If you would like to know more about this research or research happening within the field of mind-body therapy please contact me here.
