I place a great deal of importance on the link between scientific research and clinical practise and delivering evidence-based approaches. I’ve led a research project to assess the effects of the Minded Institute Yoga Therapy 8 week course on depression and anxiety. I worked with Sat Bir S. Khalsa, Harvard Medical School, Leigh Gibson, Roehampton University and Heather Mason, founder of The Minded Institute on this study. The results indicate that the 8 week course can bring about meaningful improvements in mental health, well-being, resilience and mindfulness. The research paper is due to be published in 2020.

In December 2011 I worked with a team including Dr Luciano Bernardi, professor of internal medicine at the University of Pavia, Italy, to assess the effects of different breathing techniques and rates on baro-reflex sensitivity - a reflex mechanism that enables the body to maintain blood pressure at an appropriate rate. The research paper is available here. Dr Bernardi has published a large amount of research much of which explores breathing techniques and how modulating the breath can affect physiological measures.
